Psychology and Neuropsychology

Imma Bertran Serra

My name is Imma Bertran Serra and I have been a clinical psychologist since 1991.

After obtaining the official title of the degree in 1986, I did a master's degree in Neuropsychology due to a great interest in Neurology.

For ten years I combined   my professional activity in the Department of Neuropsychology at Hospital del Mar with my private clinical activity.

20 years ago I established myself definitively on my own and since 2006 I visit the Center de la Mà in Barcelona, where I am part of the multidisciplinary team.

Recently, in 2010 I obtained the Higher Degree in Diagnostic Imaging.

What do I do?

My occupation and my concern is the emotional well-being and care of people who come to me for consultation or therapy.

Because there are situations throughout our lives that can endanger our emotional stability, our mental balance and that test both our patience and our capacity for resistance, it is necessary to have resources, mechanisms to combat psychological imbalances .

I help  those who have psychological suffering, those who are in low psychological shape, or suffer from imbalance in their emotional health and those who want well-being and psychological tranquility as well as those who come seeking advice on their personality and way of being or specific problematic situations that cause them to go through a bad personal time (separations, job changes or family problems).

I believe that emotional well-being is directly related to self-esteem, the ability to deal with distressing, stressful, unpleasant, uncomfortable situations... On the other hand, the skill and dexterity in recovering from bad experiences, d 'adversities, bad news, displeasure, disasters, and even success has to do with this well-being.

I deal with people with any psychological discomfort, difficulties in personal, family, work relationships or simply with desire and motivation to grow personally or change or just improve.

Based on my knowledge and experience, I approach each person and problem individually and specifically with a cognitive and behavioral aspect. My therapy sessions consist of advising, diagnosing and treating people with different conditions, problems and personalities. Psychotherapy is putting words to emotions and in many cases re-constructing the narrative of one's own life story.

My goal as a therapist is that through the different sessions you recover your lost emotional balance and have tools, resources and psychological strength to deal with the different conflicting situations that life brings you. In the case of neuropsychological rehabilitation, what I intend is through the sessions to restore lost functions, especially by finding compensatory resources to replace some capacities with others.

I don't like people wasting their time and psychotherapy represents an expenditure of time and money in addition to an emotional effort, so the therapies guide them to identify and solve problems in a direct way and in the shortest time that it can

Due to my training, I deal with both specific aspects of Clinical Psychology and pathologies of Neuropsychology that you can discover in each section.
